About Me

Get To Know Erin

I’m a Wisconsin-based personal finance writer with more than a decade of experience writing online. I’m passionate about providing high-quality content that helps both brands and readers reach their goals. Like many people in this line of work, I took an interesting – and not exactly linear – path to get here. I bring that experience to my work in a way that helps me relate to the typical reader.

Hello!

my story

How I Got Where I Am Today

I’ve always known I wanted to be a writer. I was the kid who excelled in English class and wrote stories in her free time. I took that passion with me to college, where I studied journalism.

After college, I took a seven-year detour into state government, researching and writing public policy. And like plenty of other millennials, I started my career with about $30,000 in student loan debt and knowing almost nothing about money.

Fast forward a few years, and I found myself divorced and racking up credit card debt to afford my new life. I learned pretty quickly that I didn’t want to live that way, and I threw my self into learning as much as I could about money, including going back to school for financial planning.

From there, it felt natural to combine my lifelong passion and skill for writing with my new passion and knowledge for personal finance to help others on their financial journeys, and I began freelance writing.

My mission today is to reach as many readers as possible, helping them get to the point where they not only feel confident with money, but they find it … dare I say it? … fun!

In February 2020, I left my job in government to pursue my full-time freelance writing career. Since then, I’ve written for major publications like Newsweek, CNN, USA Today, Forbes Advisor, Business Insider, Fox Business, and more.
