If you had asked me about WordPress plugins when I started blogging, I would have looked at you with a blank stare. Plugins were just a mystery to me.
Now, they are literally a daily part of my life. They control much of what happens on this blog, besides the basic structure. I’ve loved discovering the new best WordPress plugins and the reality that I can do just about anything on this blog with the help of a plugin.
Since they’ve become such an important part of how I run my blog, I wanted to share with you a few of the best WordPress plugins for your blog.

THE BEST WORDPRESS PLUGINS FOR YOUR BLOG
This is definitely one of the most popular WordPress plugins out there, and for good reason. SEO is so important to a blog, and this plugin makes it easy to optimize my posts to make sure search engines are finding them.
Yoast basically guides you through the SEO process for each blog post. You plug in your focus keyword, and it will analyze your post and tell you what you can do to improve your SEO based on that keyword. This includes making sure you’re using the keyword enough times, making sure you’re using it in your SEO title and meta description, making sure you’re using it in your image alt tags, etc.
I always make sure to get that green checkmark before publishing my blog posts, since SEO is an important part of my blogging strategy.
This plugin is the source of the social sharing buttons you see below my post title, as well as along the left side of each post.
I love this plugin! Having those buttons right there makes it super easy for anyone to share my blog post and their favorite social media channel.
I use a lot of affiliate links on this site and, as other bloggers can testify to, affiliate links provided by companies typically aren’t very pretty. Each time I get a new affiliate link, I plug that into Pretty Link and create a new affiliate link that is connected to my blog.
And not only does this plugin make the link prettier, but if one of the affiliate links changes, I can easily go in and change it in the plugin. That way ALL the links on my site are fixed as opposed to having to change every single link individually.
This is a relatively new plugin for me, but has quickly become one of my favorites!
I include a long, pinnable image with each blog post (actually several pinnable images), but don’t necessarily want all of those images visible in my post (mostly just because of the amount of space it takes up).
This plugin makes it so easy to upload a hidden image into each post that I can then go ahead and share on Pinterest!
Having a website that loads quickly is SUPER important for getting people to stick around on your blog! Because of this, you want to make sure you have a caching plugin set up. My favorite is WP Super Cache.
I have been working on this blog for more than four years. I can’t even tell you how many hours of work have gone into this. It’s not only a huge passion of mine, but it’s also a source of income.
Basically, it would REALLY suck to lose it. That’s why I make sure to have a security plugin in place to prevent any potential threats.
BEFORE YOU GO
A quick note about plugins: Having too many plugins on your site can slow your site speed down a LOT. Because of that, I recommend only using plugins that you feel are totally necessary for your blog. Sometimes what you’re accomplishing with a plugin can easily be accomplished with a VERY simple code change.
